Continuing to stand up for educators, union members and frontline public employees, Gov. Jay Nixon vetoes "Paycheck Deception" Senate Bill 29. Nixon called the bill "...an unnecessary burden on public employees" and noted it likely violated the equal protection requirements of the Constitution.
Paycheck deception at its core is an attempt to limit the voices of educators, union members and other public employees by creating burdensome legal hurdles. Missouri already has a law governing voluntary contributions by employees that has worked for more than 40 years. This bill is about extremist politics and is designed to undermine the collective voice of educators, while giving more power to corporations and wealthy political donors.
